José Encarnacion Peña (“Soqween” , San Ildefonso Pueblo, 1902-1979) Pochoir Print from the original 1932  portfolio “Pueblo Indian Painting: 50 Reproductions of Watercolor Paintings by Indian Artists of the New Mexican Pueblos of San Ildefonso and Sia.” , Plate 8 with a turkey and associated Maize / corn and  rain cloud designs.  On brown paper, shrink wrapped (thus some glare in some of the images) with protected corners and foam core backing.  Print measures approximately 15 by 20 inches.  Signed in the print lower right and numbered in the print upper right.   There is a piece of the lower right corner missing.  This is unframed.
Pochoir (French: for “stencil”) is a highly refined technique of making fine limited editions of stencil prints. It is often called hand coloring, or hand illustration.  The uniqueness of each image in its manual execution, the depth of its color and the quality of its surface has led to the modern rarity of this time and labor intensive process.
