Scarce Triple Signature Gold Certificate
The engraved signature of Assistant Treasurer of the Unites States Thomas Acton is prominently displayed at the bottom center of this rare and remarkable 1882 Gold Certificate. Smaller engraved signatures of Treasury officials B.K. Bruce and James Gilfillan are stacked to the right of Acton's signature thus the "Triple Signature" nickname. Just 14 examples of this Friedberg number are known with three of those held in institutional collections.
The portrait of Silas Wright is featured at left while a large die counter 50 is at right. Bold gold underprints compliment the uniquely styled brown serial numbers and brown scalloped Treasury Seal at bottom center. The design elements remain boldly inked and well detailed given the level of circulation. PMG comments "Restoration" on the back of the holder.
