    Description

    Up for auction is an
    EXTREMELY RARE
set of 17 Volumes entitled Koyo Gunkan.
The Koyo Gunkan provides some of the most detailed descriptions and statistics of military warfare in the Sengoku Period (1467-1600).
The Koyo Gunka is also the military record of Takeda family specifically Shingen Takeda .
In one section it gives the entire breakdown of Shingen Takeda army in 1573.
According to the book members of Takeda army included 9,121 horsemen, 18,242 followers for the horsemen, 884 ashigaru (foot-soldiers) within the personal attendants to the lord and 5,489 other ashigaru.
    A total of 33,736 in Takeda's army.
This is the earliest printing I have ever seen of the Koyo Gunkan in print and the most volumes (17).
This set is dated Manji 2 (1659) and is in remarkable condition for being 360 years old!!
These 17 volumes include the Heiho Okigusho and the first time the term Bushido was used.
The Heiho Okigusho was written by Yamamoto Kansuke is one the the earliest treatises on Martial Arts along with tactics and strategy.
It also provided personal advice towards the wielding of the sword , spear gun and bow for the individual rather than for the entire troop.
This is truly a museum piece for the true collector of Martial Arts books.
